„The Ensemble“ is the extension for the museum of musical instruments in Markneukirchen, Germany. The concept is devided into many smaller buildings throughout the hillside which all have different functions. Therefore the buidling size fits into the surrounding houses of the town. The single buildings are connected through bridges above ground and tunnels in the ground which generates one exhibition walk and guides the visitor through every building. Due to this connection and same materials the project is presenting itself as one object. Because we chose such minimalistic materiality the extension is setting itself in a position to be a scenery for the existing building. During the visit one will experience tension between light and darkness but also highs and lows. Therfore the people will become a part of the exhibion. We only placed very limited openings in the facades to frame very specific views. The big, central building has a concert hall on the ground floor, which can be fully opened towards the existing building to merge the inside and outside together to create a unique atmosphere.
