artists residency Dresden

The artist residence is located in Dresden in Germany. It is on a hillside right next to the river, Elbe with a view into the historic city. The building is supposed to be a residence and studio (2. and 3. floor) for eight artist scholarship students from the Gerhard Richter archive. Furthermore there is a public area on the first floor with a café and event room. The whole building is very open in the front which brings a lot of natural light into the building. With every floor the building shifts mor into the hill which creates terraces in the front. All along the long terraces there is a pergola with curtains in between each pillar to have protection from the sun and to create more privacy on the terraces. This creates a much more silent and atmospheric feeling. The circulation of the building is located on the right side of the building and is characterized by a triangulated shape. It flows through the building from the bottom to the top like a sculpture and is therfore in a contrast to the rest of the building.
